And the result? Success.

Over the weekend of November 22nd-24th, the Stittsville Storm Atom A hockey team went undefeated through six games to capture the championship trophy at the Napanee Stars Combo Hockey Tournament.

The Storm started round robin play on Friday by first defeating Gananoque 6-0 . The Storm then played  a  strong team from Port Hope and, working hard, beat them 5-4 in a close fought battle. On Saturday, the Storm completed their round robin play by defeating a team from Kanata 6-1.

The Storm placed first in their pool, and it meant that they would play all their playoff round games on Sunday.  Their first game Sunday morning saw them face the fourth place team in the other pool – another Kanata team. The Storm beat Kanata 2-0. After this victory, they then had to wait to find out who they played in the semi-finals.

A big strong team from Quinte West was their next opponent. They were also the next to fall in defeat. The surging Storm team played well and won their game 2-0. R. Christink garnered his third shutout of the tournament and his second shutout of the day.

The finals awaited against Prince Edward County. A hard fought, back and forth game ensued, with incredible back checking from both teams. Crowds were screaming with each puck possession. Midway through the first period the Storm struck with a nifty little goal from T. Kwindt who broke down the left wing after a pass from K. Glandon, cut hard across the goal and slid the puck into the net.
Prince Edward County pressed but was ultimately held off the scoreboard by great defensive coverage and timely goaltending.

As the final buzzer went the Storm completed their great weekend run with a 1-0 victory and a championship trophy.
