Stittsville RAMS U16 Parent Letter

2023-07-17 - U16 - Rep

Hello Parents,

Welcome to the 2023-24 hockey season and the opportunity for all players born in 2008 to play competitive hockey for the Stittsville U16 Rams this season.

For those who do not know me my name is Adam Aziz and I will be the head coach this year. After having been assistant coach for this group for the last 2 years, I am excited to have an opportunity to step into the head coaching role. I have been coaching hockey since 2018 between Stittsville and Kanata, and continue to play today.

Having grown up playing RAMS myself I know how impactful this organization is to the community, the players, and all those that are involved in the system. This year I will be trying to bring on 2 additional non-parent coaches with me, other guys that have worn the RAMS logo themselves and are aligned with the importance of a healthy hockey season.

Tryout Process (Currently Planned Process)

Evaluators:  4-5 non-parents, 2+ assigned SMHA evaluators
·       Evaluation 1 and 2 will be inter-squad games
·       Evaluation 3-5 will be inter-squad games or exhibition games, depending on scheduling constraints
·       Releases can begin after evaluation session 2, and from every evaluation session onward

Expectations

Expectations for my players are simple: Play hard, play with respect, and play for the team first. This is regarding teammates, opponents, coaches, and parents. Throughout the year there will be a focus on the simple motto “Phase Forward, Control What You Can.” My job this year is to support the growth of the team both on and off the ice by instilling proper habits, work ethic and keeping things fun.

Players and parents should be ready to commit to 4 - 5 sessions per week (games, practices, training sessions). This team needs to be the player’s top priority when it comes to extra-curricular activities. Attendance for all team activities will be mandatory with acceptable exceptions determined by the coaching staff.

Fees

Competitive fees for this season will be $1300 ($800 RAMS fee plus $500 team fee) in addition to the SMHA registration fee. Sponsorship and fundraising will be needed to ensure a successful season when it comes to additional funding requirements. We respectfully request that you bring forward any ideas or opportunities if you have them.
